love in an elevator

owned.

first track workout yesterday. did allright, didn't do as well as i would have liked. ran it with a teammate who is a maniac. did 3x400, 3 sets.
67,69,77
74,78,79
79,79,77

at least i was able to get my last one faster than the previous 2 in the set. go out a little slower next week and pace a little bit more.

out of breath, heavy breathing, not feeling good.

was proud for pushing through it, not with overall performance.

going for a nice long 40-45 min. run today. loosen it up, do some squats after, situps, and stay warm. should be nice.

tournament this weekend. start visualizing tight d, smart d, quick feet, and going up strong. your decisions and cutting are controllables. be ready to work.

i will outwork. i will make those around me better. i will outwork

throw some d's on it

got a bike. i got a new bike, fixed gear. i love it. i rode it for a few days, went to adjust the handlebars, found out the stem bolt is stripped to hell. unfortunately, it's a fancy italian stem and hasn't been produced in 10 years. hoping to find a replacement bolt somehow. if not, hacksaw the fork or stem off. should be interesting. oh yeah , bought a hacksaw on ebay. sweet.

to training.

i really hope i get my bike fixed soon, because i was having a blast riding it. took it for 3 rides, each on longer than the previous. first day, only about 7-8 miles. next ride was 13 miles. last one was from belchertown into amherst, ran a few errands, then headed back. took about 1/2 hour each way. total ride was right around 20 miles. felt awesome. still getting used to road tires and not being able to stop pedaling.

running has been tough. i have been focusing on tempo runs and they have been hard to push through. my hamstring is still convinced it is hurt, i keep telling it otherwise. bites at me when i am running, but i can push through it. back to doing situps, which is good. my back is feeling better.

weighed myself. 156 pounds. keep it right there, tighten up my body a little bit more.

still eating well. need to stay focused on that. more fruits and vegetables.

running my first track workout of the year tonight. i am excited. 3 sets of 3x400. 2 minutes between each 400, 3 minutes between sets. work hard, push to work harder than anyone else has. you will be faster that way. stay fast.

your mind may say no, but i guarantee you your body can go on.

be the worker you want your teammates to be.

and then work harder

not sure how i feel. but i do know that i did all i could at tryouts. i played as hard as i could every point and prepared myself mentally and physically before.

change clothes

whoa.

intense weekend. lots going on.

went out friday night with bro and gf. good times. got pretty hydrated, no misbehaving. just good ol' fashioned fun.

saturday was graduation day. pretty long day. spent it sitting in stands, cheering for the graduate, cookout, lots of pictures. came home and just sat for awhile, feel asleep on the couch, then went to bed.

sunday morning was rainy, but not cold. got pretty humid. had a bowl of cereal for breakfast. my legs felt weak and tired, just in the quad/hamstring area. wanted to get some protein, boost up the strength, but didn't find any.

drove up to the fields, pretty rainy on the way up, got scared it was going to be a nasty day. nice easy trip. got there plenty early. watched my old boys play. they looked good. still lacking the fundamentals, but i bet they will iron that out once they pick a team.

warmed up, felt pretty good. had the pleasure of playing against the noise first, which was weird. game started out well. they dropped the disc. we centered, i cut deep and then went up and got the disc. felt good.

we won our first two games pretty easily. felt really good to run hard, to work. i have to remember that word. work. work.

last game was against the other boston team. i got scored on one of the first points, was pretty pissed at myself. played pretty solid d the rest of the game. i need to work out how to play the wing in the new zone i was playing. very interesting to listen and soak up the experience these other guys have.

overall, felt strong all weekend. need to keep working, keep pushing when running. the harder i work on my own, the easier it will be in front of the team. play through the games in your mind before you even step on the field. be a step ahead.

stay fast, work harder. crunch time is now coming up and you will be ready. you will already have been there. picture lock down d. visualize going to on each disc.

work

i dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four wheel drive

good week.

i stayed on my schedule, took wednesday off, did some situps too. felt good on the runs. made myself pace out my monday run. went a little harder on the tuesday run. wednesday off. lifted yesterday. did benchpress, tricep, curl, squats, and situps. felt good, felt strong.

had a delicious dinner of kielbasa and veggies. yeah zoo.

this weekend, another one day of a tourney. i am looking forward to playing again, wish i could get out there for a full weekend.

take time now to visualize good defense, good fakes, good skies.

be great, the rest will take care of itself.

this is how you remind me

been a week.

stayed busy. getting pretty owned between job, practice, training, and life. i am holding up well and i can really see changes and am feeling good. stay positive and keep working.

was consistent on my runs last week, cleated up for practices to get myself moving more.

i am looking into trading my bike in for a fixed gear commuter bike. i am excited. going to be touch to see my cannondale go, but we have had some great times.

two tournaments last weekend, coached in one, played in the other.

got 2nd place at greenfield, coaching tournament. the kids played well, once again showed me how well they can come back. i need to figure out a way to incorporate more intensity into their warmups. truly prepare them for the game.

at pike invite, we got 1st. played with the new team. things went allright. it felt awesome to finally play again. not indoor, not 5 on 5, not just throwing. actual ultimate. took me awhile to start to get my game legs back. my training has put me in a very good position physically, now i just have to remind my body how to use it.

i still need to work on my dump defense. i am too scared of getting beat upline and too often allow them an easy reset. work on quickness, agility. also, when cutting, i need to stop cutting from the front of the stack, exactly what i tell my players not to do. i cut off a few people this weekend, thinking i had an easy cut out of the front. as soon as i did it, i realized it, but be more aware.

one thing i was happy about was that i did not get beat deep. stay intense on d.

i smiled on the line a whole bunch. looked up, around, down. took in the situation. realized i didn't want to be anywhere else in the world at that moment. i love ultimate. feeling that way while playing, recognizing that feeling, is a very powerful motivator and natural boost.

drive home was dismal. i f-ing hate the city.

went for a nice 4 miler yesterday, stretched. still pretty tight in the hamstrings. still need to get more explosive and jump better. one disc went up that i really want to d, couldn't get up. not enough zing. really wanted another shot at that one.

throw more often.

head up, eyes on fire.

"i always took a certain amount of fear into each game. Not the fear of failing, but the fear of being humiliated."

train with fire, play with fire

spiderman 3 stinks

took 4 days off. ran around a bit one of the days, coached two in a row, and napped in the afternoon of the the fourth. would have liked to get running, but i was absolutely exhausted. i laid down on the coach and was asleep within 3 minutes and didn't wake up for 45 minutes.

the a.i. went very well. my kids stepped it up and played pretty awesome all weekend. big games against some big names. took care of business when needed. little lapse in the middle, but came back firing and learned from it.

tournament to coach and a tournament to play at this weekend. heading down to new jersey on saturday night to play on sunday. should be a good time. i am feeling confident, but certainly not cocky. i know that anything less than 100% and i am gone, so it will be a good chance to play well.

i have been eating pretty healthy on the whole. still eating a lot of veggies and fruits, keep it up. have even been feeling kind of lean.

i am going for a run today before practice, cleating up to help out with practice and then doing sprints and squat jumps after. will be a good day of activeness.

prepare mentally and remember to take care of the controllables, leave the uncontrollables for other people to worry about.

i am a rock

under my um-ber-ella ella ella ella

solid.

april was a tough month to stay on track. i ended up taking about 15 days off total, which i am not happy about. on the plus side, i did need to give my hamstring some time to rest and april was a good time to take it easy a little bit. i am back in full swing now.

rededicate

my team is doing very well. they continue to impress me and also drive me nuts. very capable of playing at a high level all of the time, but sometimes find it difficult to get up to game speed. i will try and mix up the warm-up routine a little bit and also be a little more active.

on a personal level, my training is moving along. i can definitely feel that i am faster and even a little bit quicker off a stop. i have lost about 10 lbs. and will continue to not drink carbonated shtuff.

i will continue to do sprints at least every other day, along with squat jumps. i am going to start building more plyo stuff into my routines. that will help strengthen muscles to support my hamstring and quad.

i am not going to post about everything i have done since my last post, so i will start with monday. monday i rested, tuesday i rested. on wednesday, it was time to get back at it, convince my hamstring that it is not hurt. i went for a short, 20 minute tempo run on some trails. did a little dynamic stretching. did 3x10 squat jumps. practice started and i cleated up and played with the team. i just need to start playing more, get my game legs back. just a little rusty, no excuses.
after practice, i ran sprints. 5 of about 40 yards. 5 of 15 yards, turn and go back. 3 suicide style with the same distances. out 15, back, out 40, back. felt good and could start to feel the threshold.

stretched after and then went home and enjoyed the red sox for the evening.

yesterday had a scrimmage. very tough to motivate to go running once i got home, but i did. about a 30 minute run in the woods, good pace, nothing too quick, pushed on the hills. really wanted to make it a run to keep the muscles warm and stretch them out. felt good, a little tired at times, but felt good.

did a few dynamic stretching things and then stretched.

i have decided to wrap my hamstring after each workout and keep it on for a couple hours. it feels good after i take the wrap off and while it is on. the sleeve i bought doesn't seem to do it, so i am just going to play with nothing on it and then make sure to wrap it after.

this is a pivotal point in my training. i can take off from here if i choose and make myself the player i want to be.

i can do it
